Representative Duties
Knowledge and Abilities
- District and college policies, procedures, rules, and regulations related to the area of assignment.
- California Education Code and Title V as it relates to the area of assignment.
- Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
- Current principles and practices of early childhood education and development.
- Practices and methods of instruction, care, and supervision of infant, toddler, and/or preschool-aged children in a learning laboratory classroom setting.
- Basic concepts of child development and behavior patterns of infant, toddler, and/or preschool-aged children.
- Procedures and practices for maintaining classroom and playground safety.
- Appropriate speech and behavior including conflict resolution.
- Basic theories of early childhood education.
- Developmentally appropriate practices.
- Instructional methods, aids, and games.
- General needs and behavior of pre0school children; applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
- Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
- Federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations and District policies and practices pertinent to the area of responsibility.
- Computer software programs, applications, databases, and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems; computer hardware and peripheral equipment related to the area of the assignment.
- Best practices and procedures on use of various office equipment.
- Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary.
- Effective communication skills both verbally and in writing.
- Record keeping, filing, file-sharing, and filing systems best practices, methods, and techniques.
- Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
- Perform the essential responsibilities of the position.
- Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.
- Perform routine health tasks such as toileting, diapering, and hand washing.
- Practice appropriate health and safety approaches.
- Read expressively to children to explain and discuss concepts presented through reading, song, and movement
- Assist teachers’ efforts to facilitate and support emergent literacy through music, activities, creativity movement, reading, math, science, and social studies.
- Model appropriate social skills and behavior.
- Provide support and guidance to young children.
- Adhere to appropriate diapering procedures at all times to ensure the cleanliness of work areas and proper disposal of diapers.
- Understand and follow written and oral instructions.
- Assist teachers with pre-school children in a variety of academic subjects and creative activities.
- Plan, develop, implement, monitor, supervise, and oversee the daily activities and operations of a classroom in a learning environment.
- Plan, prepare, and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum, lesson plans, and instructional strategies to meet the needs of toddler and preschool0aged children.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with pre-school children.
- Maintain a healthy and safe environment.
- Observe and document child development, behavior, and health.
- Provide work direction to others.
- Maintain records, files, and filing systems related to the area of assignment.
- Maintain confidential student records and files according to FERPA.
- Plan, organize, and prioritize workload to meet schedules and timelines.
- Exercise tact and diplomacy in dealing with sensitive and complex issues and situations.
- Understand and follow verbal and written directions.
- Effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Utilize computer software programs, applications, and databases; computer hardware and peripheral equipment related to the area of assignment.
- Communicate with students, staff, and the public in person and via a variety of communication modalities using various technology resources.
- Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with those encountered in the course of work.
Education and Experience
- Twelve (12) units of Early Childhood Education core courses.
- Six (6) units in child development/early childhood education courses in curriculum and/or field work.
- Child Development Assistant Teacher Permit or higher issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
- Or, any combination of education and experience which would provide the required qualifications for the position.
Foreign Degrees
Any degree from a country other than the United States, including Canada and Great Britain, must be evaluated by an Evaluation Service prior to the closing date. Certification must be attached with copies of transcripts.
License Certificates/Credentials
- A valid Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification.
- First Aid Certification and Pediatric First Aid Certification.
- CPR and First Aid Certificate from the American Red Cross or other authorized agency.
- Maintain Child Development Assistant Teacher Permit or higher issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid driver license.
- May be required to travel for various off-site meetings, trainings, conferences, and or events in support of the overall objective of the position.

Additional Information
