Government Affairs Manager Job Description

Job Title: Government Affairs Manager
Reports to: President/CEO
Job Summary:
The Government Affairs Manager will serve as a support to the President/CEO and be responsible for assisting the organization and the CFHLA PAC and PC in the areas of advocacy and political affairs. Additionally, the Government Affairs Manager – in coordination with our lobbyists at GrayRobinson PA – will monitor and lobby the priorities of the hospitality and tourism industry, at the local, state, and national levels. Lastly, the Government Affairs Manager will execute all of CFHLA’s political, campaign and grassroots advocacy efforts, that supports and advances CFHLA’s strategic initiatives, as well as the goals of the CFHLA PAC and PC.
The ideal individual must be able to work under pressure, handle a wide variety of activities, willingness to assist the CFHLA Team and Membership, and enjoy working within a team environment that is mission-driven, results-driven, and community oriented.
CFHLA PAC/PC and Governmental Affairs Responsibilities include:
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with our local and state elected officials, as well as community leaders and tourism partners.
- Manage the CFHLA PAC and PC Board of Directors and the CFHLA Governmental Affairs Committee which includes:
- Maintaining comprehensive and accurate Board and Committee meeting minutes, records, documents and reports.
- Organize and coordinate all CFHLA PAC and PC meetings, Governmental Affairs Committee meetings and annual events (includes food and beverage).
- Management of all Candidate Interviews / CFHLA PAC and PC Endorsements (during election years).
- Plan, manage, and execute all CFHLA PAC and PC fundraising efforts including the Tee-It-Up for Tourism annual fundraiser, two annual online auctions, individual and corporate donations, and CFHLA endorsed candidate fundraisers.
- Secure auction items for two online auctions from the CFHLA Board of Directors and Committee Members.
- Fundraise individual/corporate monetary donations for the CFHLA PAC and PC.
- Assist in the filing of the CFHLA PAC and PC campaign finance reports with the Florida Division of Elections.
- Oversee the creation, implementation and execution of the CFHLA Board approved public policy and advocacy initiatives/strategies (this includes local and legislative priorities).
- To participate, partner and support Florida Tourism Day, as well as the planning and coordination of any other state or local partnership efforts throughout the year (includes industry priorities).
- Assist in the creation and the production of CFHLA’s Annual Legislative Priorities and Post Session Legislative Report.
- Work with our Director of Communications and Marketing, to produce the content for our once per month public policy e-newsletter (The Insider).
- Maintain CFHLA representation at local Tourist Development Council Meetings, Application Review Committee Meetings, the Orange County TDT Sports Incentive Committee meetings and other related industry committees (Orange, Osceola and Seminole counties).
Other CFHLA Responsibilities include:
- Utilize various software systems, including a membership database and perform minor accounting.
- Other miscellaneous responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Required Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university AND a minimum of one (1) year in governmental affairs/public policy/campaign related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Non-Profit/Association/Government experience and/or campaign experience IS A PLUS.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Also, public relations experience in establishing and maintaining media relations is A PLUS.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to take initiative, multi-task, be a team-player, be flexible, adapt to shifting priorities, and prioritize work.
- Must have excellent knowledge of the entire Microsoft Office suite (including Outlook, Word, Excel, Publisher and PowerPoint).
- Must have attention to detail, a commitment to accuracy and be extremely organized.
- Passion for the mission of the CFHLA PAC/PC and the ability to ignite a shared passion in others.
