Summary of Position
The Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at the University of New Hampshire invites applications for a benefits-eligible, unionized lecturer position (two-year appointment, with the possibility of renewal based on performance and departmental needs) with specialization in Arabic language and culture for the 2025-2026 academic year. The Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures is a vibrant department offering coursework in six languages, including a Dual-Major and a Minor in Arabic. The department also participates in several interdisciplinary programs on campus, among them a Global Studies Dual-Major, a Middle Eastern Studies Minor, and numerous study abroad opportunities. We are committed to excellence in teaching and learning. Candidates should have a strong teaching record and the ability to deliver Arabic language and culture courses at all levels, as well as Arabic culture courses within our general education curriculum (“Discovery Program”). The successful candidate will have skills to lead and grow our Arabic program and be familiar with instructional technology and best pedagogical practices. The teaching load for the academic year consists of 6 courses (generally 3/3) and the service responsibilities include active participation in co-curricular activities.

As this is a position focused on teaching and program leadership, letters addressing teaching experience and ability, leadership qualities, and language proficiency in both Arabic and English are beneficial. Acceptable Minimum Qualifications
PhD in Arabic Language, Arabic Studies, or a related field; native or near-native fluency in Arabic; fluency in English; college-level teaching experience. Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States without UNH sponsorship.

In addition to the minimum qualifications above, the successful candidate may also contribute some of the following desirable qualifications: Ability to lead and grow an Arabic program; Intercultural competence; experience in recruitment, retention, and program growth; experience with student-centered engagement; innovative curriculum development; grant writing; technological innovation; study abroad development, maintenance, and advising.
