Position Overview

The intern will support the development of Machine Learning (ML)/AI algorithms for Multi-Cancer Early Detection (MCED). This role will involve working with multi-modal datasets and generating features from next-generation sequencing (NGS) and PCR-based assays. The intern will have the opportunity to train and validate cutting-edge models aimed at improving cancer detection methods.

Essential Duties

Include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Develop and implement ML/AI algorithms
  • Work with large multi-modal datasets, including NGS and PCR-based assays and biochemical assays, to generate novel features for model training.
  • Train, validate, and optimize ML models to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of cancer detection.
  • Analyze and interpret data to provide actionable insights and improvements to existing models.
  • Document research findings and present results to the team.
  • Apply strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members across various departments.
  • Exercise excellent problem-solving skills to address complex challenges in cancer detection methods.
  • Incorporate advanced analytical and critical thinking skills to refine and validate models.
  • Display a proactive learning mindset to stay updated with the latest advancements in ML/AI and bioinformatics.
  • Uphold company mission and values through accountability, innovation, integrity, quality, and teamwork.
  • Support and comply with the company's Quality Management System policies and procedures.

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Ability to work the designated schedule.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work on a mobile device, tablet, or in front of a computer screen and/or perform typing for approximately 80% of a typical working day.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program in computer science, bioinformatics, computational biology or related field.
  • Ability to implement algorithms in common programming languages such as Python or R.
  • Ability to query and reshape large datasets
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Salary Range:

$37,000.00 - $59,000.00

The annual base salary shown is for this position located in US - CA - San Diego on a full-time basis.
