Our paid internship program is thoughtfully curated to provide students with experience and exposure to the healthcare industry. Interns will be given the opportunity to get hands-on experience with real work projects, build meaningful relationships and connections within the organization, and experience our mission and enterprise goals through our program curriculum centered on our leadership model (Personal, People, Thought, and Results Leadership). Our Summer 2025 Internship is June 9th or June 16th through August 15th, 2025.

As an intern at Blue Shield of California, you will:
- Participate in impactful projects during a 10-week internship program
- Undertake a 10-week curriculum designed to familiarize interns with BSC, leadership development, exposure to the healthcare industry, and more
- Be invited to participate in BSC employee events and networking opportunities such as Employee Resource Groups, employee volunteer activities, and more
General Requirements:
- Must reside in the state of California for the duration of the internship
- Hybrid requirements - Preferably live within a 50-mile radius of a BSC office and be available for in-office collaboration 2 times per month
- Must currently be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at the time of the internship, with a graduation date of December 2025 or later
Your Role
The Information Technology team oversees our data & analytics, strategic planning & performance, IT infrastructure services, IT shared services, IT applications, and information security functions and responsibilities at Blue Shield. IT is a business partner that provides delivery excellence and leverages technology advancement to ensure Blue Shield is an information-led organization, in a secure, connected healthcare ecosystem. The Information Technology Intern will be on the IT Business Operations team and report to the IT internal communications manager.
The IT Communications team develops and delivers compelling and informative communications that engage, inform and inspire employees to achieve the company's goal of transforming healthcare. We amplify IT's value as a trusted partner and reinforce the importance of technology as a driver to change the industry. In this role, you will be part of a high-performing team who partners with our clients to promote IT Strategic and Run initiatives that educate and enable conversations improving the ways we work.
Your Work
In this role, you will:
- Content Creation and Editing:
- Assist in creating documentation such as user guides, FAQs, PowerPoint decks, and technical manuals
- Write or edit communication materials for internal newsletters, bulletins or emails to keep employees informed about IT updates
- Internal Communications:
- Support the communication between the IT department and other business units by drafting communication plans
- Help maintain and update the intranet or intern communication platforms with IT-related updates
Your Knowledge and Experience
- Actively pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in communications or related role
- Minimum 1 year of related professional experience, project, or coursework
- Strong communication skills required, particularly writing for publication
- Proactive, solution focused mindset with demonstrated creative, problem-solving skills
- Passionate about changing healthcare and challenging the status quo to advance health equity
Pay Range:
The pay range for this role is: $25.00 to $30.00 for California.

Please note that this range represents the pay range for this and many other positions at Blue Shield that fall into this pay grade. Blue Shield salaries are based on a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, location (California, Bay area, or outside California), and current employee salaries for similar roles.
