Position Summary

Reporting to the Associate Director for Counseling and Psychological Services, the Supervising Counselor – Coordinator for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Social Justice Initiatives will oversee, coordinate, and deliver outreach and prevention programs to engage and support students from historically marginalized and underrepresented identity groups.

 

Additionally, this position will entail the direct provision of a range of mental health services to the Fordham community, including individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, consultation, clinical supervision, outreach interventions, and assessments and evaluations.

 

Essential Functions         

  • Coordinates and oversees outreach and wellness services to engage and support students from historically marginalized and underrepresented groups.
  • Liaises and collaborates with student organizations, academic departments, and administrative offices that attend to and serve historically marginalized and underrepresented students.
  • Develops and coordinates psychoeducational programs that focus on promoting identity-based equity in student mental health and wellness.
  • Provides direct clinical services, including triages, brief psychotherapy, group counseling, and crisis intervention, to a diverse undergraduate and graduate student population.
  • Provides clinical supervision and training for pre-doctoral externs, post-doctoral fellows, psychiatric residents, and mental health counseling and social work interns.
  • Assists in the planning and delivery of university-wide outreach events and programs.
  • Participates in training, multidisciplinary, and administrative team meetings.
  • Provides consultation to faculty, administrators, families, and community providers about students of concern and campus-wide mental health issues.

Management Responsibilities   

Guides work of other employees who perform essentially the same work and/or student workers. Organizes, sets priorities, schedules and reviews work, but is generally not responsible for final decisions in hiring, performance management or compensation.

           

Required Qualifications: Education and Experience         

  • Advanced degree in a mental health related field (clinical or counseling psychology, social work, mental health counseling) from an accredited program.
  • Licensed or license-eligible as a mental health provider in New York State.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience providing counseling or therapy services in a university/college mental health or related setting.
  • Experience promoting social justice and working with students from underrepresented and underserved students.

 

Required Qualifications: Knowledge and Skills       

  • Demonstrated competency in providing clinical services, outreach, and primary prevention
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse university community of students, faculty, administrators, and families.
  • Commitment to providing multicultural counseling and conceptualizing from a psychodynamic framework.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and training skills
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and experience multitasking with various projects and competing priorities
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft and Google Office suites
  • Successful candidates should have a knowledge of and commitment to the goals of Jesuit Education.

 

Preferred Qualifications  

  • Doctorate degree preferred

 

Minimum Starting Salary: $72,000

 

Maximum Starting Salary: $75,500

 

Note: Salary is commensurate with qualifications, experience, and skills.
