Position Summary
NOTE: CHATTAHOOCHEE VALLEY COMMUNITY COLLEGE OBSERVES EASTERN TIME.
Under the general direction of the Assistant Director of Student Financial Aid Operations, the employees assists in the administration of Federal and Institutional Financial Aid Programs. The Financial Aid Specialist safeguards the confidentiality of applications, records, and decisions while respecting the rights of each student and/or dependent to discuss his/her own educational benefit outcomes based on FERPA guidelines and sound ethical practices. Additionally, computer skills are essential to successful completion of assigned tasks, such as preparing correspondence and other written materials.
Salary: Appropriate placement on Salary Schedule E3 04: ($41,944-$57,251), which is based on years of directly related full-time experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
In addition to adhering to the policies, procedures, and guidelines as specified by the Chattahoochee Valley Community College Employee Handbook, United States Department of Veteran Affairs, Alabama State Approving Agency, Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees, the Dean of Student and Campus Services, and the Executive Director of Student Financial Services and Title IV Compliance, duties include the following: Additional duties may be assigned by the Assistant Director of Student Financial Aid Operations, Executive Director of Student Financial Services & Title IV Compliance, the Dean of Students and Campus Services, or the President:
1. Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
2. Perform routine clerical duties to support the administration of the office, including data entry, typing, filing, copying, faxing, scanning, and answering the telephone and email messages.
3. Disseminate financial aid information to students and prospective students.
4. Assist students during registration and advance registration periods.
5. Act as first point of contact for all student inquiries, including in person, phone calls, and emails.
6. Answer general financial aid questions related to applying for financial aid.
7. Assist in the maintenance and storage of financial aid student record, ensuring that all information is accurate and complete.
8. Scan and enter data for each financial aid student record, ensuring that all information is accurate and complete.
9. Work with small groups (such as student tours) to inform of financial aid availability and the application process.
10. Advise students, including Title IV, Scholarship, and Veterans' Affairs (VA) students.
11. Ensure timely and accurate reporting of financial aid programs.
12. Assist with the implementation and applying Institutional and Foundational Scholarships.
13. Manages the day to day functions of processing Veteran Education Benefits, including serving as the School Certifying Official for VA Education Benefits.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Adhere to all policies and procedures set forth by the College.
2. Maintain confidentiality of identified sensitive information and of departmental information.
3. Remain current in and enhance professional knowledge and skills through professional development and continuing education.
4. Interact with and serve diverse student and employee populations in a courteous and friendly manner.
5. Recruit potential students, both traditional and nontraditional, to the College, and assist in retention efforts.
6. Represent the institution in a positive manner.
7. Participate in registration, and schedule adjustment as assigned.
8. Serve on committees as assigned.
9. Participate in graduation and other College activities.
10. Participate in the College's planning process.
11. Perform other duties as assigned.
12. Performs clerical duties associated with the Financial Aid Office and Center for Excellence for Veteran Student Success (CEVSS), including acknowledging and greeting all students and visitors, answering a multi-line telephone, responding to emails, managing and directing student traffic.
13. Maintains knowledge of modern business communication, including style and format of letters, memos and reports.
14. Maintains knowledge of filing and records management to include control of documents in storage retrieval of records and transfer and storage of documents
15. Maintains knowledge of college policies and procedures.
16. Demonstrates skills in the use of Microsoft Office applications to include, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
17. Demonstrates ability to understand directives, policies, procedures, administrative handbooks and similar material.
18. Demonstrates ability to establish priorities and work without close supervision.
19. Demonstrates ability and willingness to maintain confidentiality.
20. Interacts with and serve diverse student and employee populations in a courteous and friendly manner.
21. Adheres to College standards of professionalism and confidentiality, including courteous and friendly interaction with other CVCC employees and represents the institution in a positive manner.
22. Maintains appropriate work hours as outlined in State and College policies and assigned by supervisor or dean.
23. As a Campus Security Authority (CSA), report to the official or office designated by the institution to collect crime report information, such as the campus police or security department, those allegations of Clery Act crimes that the CSA concludes were made in good faith.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate's degree, or equivalent (60 semester hours), from a regionally accredited institution
- Two (2) years of full-time directly related work experience
- Ability to demonstrate computer skills during screening
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to work independently
- Excellent interpersonal and customer skills and work ethic
- Effective oral and written communication skills; proficiency in the English language
- Proficient use of the Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and/or Outlook.
