Executive Director Overview

The Provincetown Business Guild, a.k.a. The PBG, is a not-for-profit organization of business, trade, and professional individuals committed to the economic and cultural development of LGBTQ tourism to Provincetown. The PBG, established in 1978, is a marketing engine that leverages all avenues to help promote Provincetown as the #1 LGBTQ travel destination in America, thus promoting Provincetown to the LGBTQ market worldwide.

The PBG is committed to driving destination traffic to member businesses all year-round. Through our historic partnership with the town, we maintain a welcoming, authentic, clean, exciting, and unique place full of events and activities for new and returning tourism audiences. Events produced by the PBG include Carnival, Holly Folly, First Light Pride, and supporting and promoting all queer events and activities in Provincetown. We provide the best concierge and marketing services to the LGBTQ community and ensure that our future goals for Provincetown are clear and acted upon.

The PBG is seeking an Executive Director who can provide leadership to the membership and staff. It is critical that this person has a strong commitment to the LGBTQ community and is passionate about marketing all that Provincetown has to offer. The right candidate needs to engage with a variety of stakeholders, including members, sponsors, grantors, advertisers, venue owners, tourism, and town officials alike. Responsibilities will include balancing the needs of the membership while advocating to town officials and other local business and tourism agencies. Above all, maintain stewardship of the PBG mission.

ED Role & Responsibility

  • Provide ongoing leadership internally and externally to fulfill the organization’s mission
  • Develop and manage an annual strategic plan which supports the mission, including marketing, events, sponsorship, and membership
  • Fiscal responsibility in developing and managing annual budget
  • Develop membership strategy to recruit and retain members
  • Develop and oversee a 3-prong marketing strategy:
  • Marketing and Communications Platform - market Provincetown to the LGBTQ traveler through all platforms: website, guidebooks, print, social, PR, weekly Eblasts and digital.
  • Ad sales - develop advertising plan to leverage all platforms and drive revenue
  • Sponsorship Strategy - secure and retain new sponsorship relationships and dollars
  • To secure that all activities are delivered on time and on budget through optimal organizational management of full-time, part-time, contracted, and volunteer staff, including:
  • Operations Coordinator
  • Event/Production Manager
  • Volunteer Coordinator
  • Publicist
  • Graphic talent
  • Vendors
  • Representative voice of the PBG including but not limited to: Visitors Service Board, Local Chambers, Provincetown Business Community, Town, and State Public Officials and the Media
  • Appointing a staff or board member to a seated position on the town’s Visitors Service Board. Ensuring that the PBG has representation with the town’s tourism office.
  • Report to the board of directors and membership, including maintaining ongoing marketing, events and general updates, monthly meetings, in person members meeting and networking events.
  • Driving the mission and overseeing the management, finances and programing of the Pride Center.

Background Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience in managing a nonprofit organization or similar
  • Experience in working with membership-based organization
  • Track record of effectively leading a performance- and outcomes-based organization and staff
  • Have examples of successfully developed and operationalized strategies
  • Unwavering commitment to quality programs
  • Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach staff, manage, and develop high-performance teams, set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage a budget.
  • Past success working with a board of directors with the ability to cultivate existing board member relationships.
  • Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to business planning.
  • Passion, idealism, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed.
  • Strong marketing and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of diverse stakeholders and cultures.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, write grants, prepare budgets and policy manuals.
  • Requisite financial management skills, communication skills (verbal and written), computer & technology skills, reasoning ability, and problem-solving capabilities expected of an Executive Director.
  • Exhibit a professional, competent, and confident manner to offer assurance to members (existing & potential) and other stakeholders of the PBG’s commitment to the community.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $90,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
