Job Summary |
This position performs a variety of basic custodial and maintenance activities, and/or year-round grounds keeping, basic utility/maintenance tasks.

Essential Responsibilities & Duties |
Performs a variety of cleaning activities which may include: vacuuming, shampooing, and hand cleaning carpets and rugs; picking up trash and litter from grounds, in buildings, and on buses; and, performing other related activities.
Monitors associated supplies/inventory and notifies appropriate individual(s) when stock levels reach specified levels. Operates and maintains a variety of cleaning equipment and tools. Observe campus buildings and properties and communicate problems or situations which need attention to the appropriate individual(s). Open or lock/secure doors at scheduled times or as requested. Performs a variety of manual labor activities, which may include: gathering materials and equipment; placing materials in proper locations; moving furniture and equipment; assembling furniture; removing snow and ice from walkways; setting up and tearing down items for campus meetings and events; and, performing other related activities. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level. |
Required Training and Experience |
High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.); or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

Acceptable criminal background check required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
Knowledge of:
Basic facilities cleaning and grounds maintenance principles; Chemicals and chemical mixtures; Safety and security procedures; Applicable equipment and tools; Applicable chemicals and their usage. Skill in: Maintaining a safe and healthy working environment; Reading and comprehending Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS); Cleaning and sanitizing restrooms, buildings, and other facilities; Proper handling of chemicals; Using applicable tools and equipment; Monitoring grounds and facilities for safety hazards; Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction. Physical Requirements |
Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
Very Heavy Work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, intense noises and travel. Position may require weekend, evening, and/or holiday work. |
