The Organization
Lighthouse Foundation of Chicagoland is a Black LGBTQ+ led, multiracial social justice organization that advances justice for Black LGBTQ+ people across Chicagoland through empowerment, education, and entertainment. Since LF’s founding in July 2019, we have forged collaborations with 25 partner organizations, planned 88 events with 4,000 participants, and launched the nation’s first Black Queer Equity Index (BQEI).
The Role
The Contract Grant Writer will report to the Executive Director and execute grant prospecting, writing, management, and tracking duties. This role starts as a contract position with the option to extend after six months. This role is perfect for a seasoned grant writer wanting to invest in a thriving organization at a point of inflection where rapid expansion is possible.
Responsibilities
Grants (75%)
- Researches and writes grants
- Conceptualizes, authors, and submits grant reports
- Identifies funding opportunities and new program areas to match organizational priorities using research tools
- Prospects new funding partners and funding opportunities
General (25%)
- Work with the Senior Manager of Operations in maintaining and refining systems for planning and progress monitoring of development activities
- Assist with updating development databases (in Google Sheets) that incorporate event sponsorship and grants
- Aids the Senior Manager of Operations in grant submission
Job Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree
- Experience with Google Docs and Google Sheets
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and knowledge of communication principles and practices
- Attention to detail, project management skills, and being highly organized
- Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and follow through with minimal direction
- Interest and desire to learn how to become an impactful development professional
- Flexibility in varied job assignments
- Familiarity with social justice, racial justice, and LGBTQ+ communities
- An understanding of and belief in the mission of Lighthouse Foundation
- 5+ years of grant writing experience
- 5+ years of experience in a nonprofit setting
Preferred
- Master’s degree
- Experience with project management software like Monday or Asana
- Experience with donor management software
- An upbeat, positive attitude and a good sense of humor are a plus
