Job Summary
The Department of Biomedical Engineering is a collaborative unit between the College of Engineering and Medical School and prides itself on fostering a positive and supportive atmosphere for all students, faculty and staff. BME is currently seeking an Undergraduate Academic and Pre-Health Advisor to join their dedicated Student Services Team. This new position will play a crucial role in delivering exceptional customer service to both prospective and current undergraduate Biomedical Engineering students. In addition, this position will provide pre-health advising for all College of Engineering students interested in advancing to medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, optometry, veterinary medicine, and other health-related fields.

Responsibilities*
The Undergraduate Academic and Pre-Health Advisor is responsible for delivering comprehensive advising and support services to both prospective and declared BME undergraduate students. This includes academic advising and career counseling for College of Engineering students interested in pursuing health-related professional programs. The advisor will also manage and execute various student services events, maintain accurate advising records, and facilitate effective communication with students and staff.

Required Qualifications*
Academic Advisor Intermediate: Bachelor's Degree with 2+ years of advising or counseling experience in higher education OR a Master's Degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, Social Work, or a related field.
(Underfill) Academic Advisor Associate: Bachelor's Degree with 1+ years of advising or counseling experience in higher education.
Experience in academic advising or counseling, preferably within higher education or related to health professions.
Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively with a high degree of accuracy while working in an environment of fluctuating priorities and interruptions.
Extremely detail-oriented with the ability to recognize and investigate data anomalies.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) to work effectively with a diverse student body, as well as distinct faculty and staff.
Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a member of a team.
Ability to maintain detailed records and manage sensitive information confidentially. Familiar with FERPA.
Desired Qualifications*
Familiarity and experience with University administrative and business tools such as Business Objects, MReports and other MPathways systems; knowledge of UM organizational structure.
