Course Description

The LSA Department of Women's and Gender Studies has up to three GSI positions for the Winter 2025 term. Each GSI will lead two discussion sections (30 students in each section) for a faculty-led lecture in WGS-400 (Women's Reproductive Health). WGS-400 satisfies LSA's Upper Level Writing Requirement.

Responsibilities*

Successful applicants will teach two discussion sections of WGS 400 under the direction of the course instructor for a 50% GSI appointment. The duties of this appointment will also include timely grading (per lead faculty instruction), attending all lectures, holding weekly office hours, and leading discussion sections as scheduled, which will include development of independent lesson plans for weekly sections. Responsibilities also include meeting regularly with the lead instructors and responding promptly to emails. Additional duties and responsibilities as outlined in the fraction calculation form. Note that both lecture and discussion sections are scheduled as in-person instruction. WGS 400 covers a range of topics in reproductive health, rights, and justice, including maternal mortality, sexual assault, abortion, contraception, sexually transmitted infections, gender-based violence, infertility, reproductive cancers, among many others. The course also requires viewing of the Hulu series The Handmaid's Tale (Season 1). Successful applicants will be comfortable with these topics and confident and experienced in helping students engage with health-related topics that they may find difficult or polarizing.

Decision Making Process
