Job Summary

Heavy, physical, and busy work that requires:

Frequent, clear communication with co-workers.  Good attendance record.  On your feet most of shift.  Need to lift, pull, and push without restrictions.  Transporting patients on stretchers, beds, or by wheelchair with some patients weighing over 300 lbs.  Ability to effectively and positively work with patients that may be ill.  Transferring patients to/from beds, stretchers, wheelchairs.
Transporting equipment.  Transporting paperwork.  Transporting lab specimens.  Trips to/from other hospital departments.  Cleaning wheelchairs and stretcher as needed for patient care use.
Making stretchers with clean linen.  Keeping log of transports, and signing in and out on log, Notifying clinical staff as needed for patient care needs, including when Lift Team assistance is required.  Immediately responding as part of MPU team to unexpected and emergent situations.

Required Qualifications*

Work Schedule

Hours/Days/Shift:  40 hours per week, variable hours, Monday through Friday.

Modes of Work

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the AFSCME union, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
