REGISTERED NURSE (Ambulatory Care-OB/GYN Answer Line)

Job Description

Responsibilities*

?    Provide the delivery of culturally sensitive, age-specific team-based care models in delivering nursing care for Primary Care patients including, adult medicine, pediatric, and OB/GYN patient populations.
?    Accurate and efficient documentation of nursing care. 
?    Knowledge and appropriate use of internal and external resources. 
?    Provide functional supervision to assistive personnel; collaborate with colleagues, other disciplines, and health care/community services to promote continuity of care.
?    The OBGYN Answer Line RN position provides support to patients, families, physicians and other members of the multidisciplinary team. The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Michigan Health System provides the highest level of patient care to patients with normal and high-risk pregnancies, and we expertly address a wide range of gynecologic and women's health concerns, including, but not limited to: adolescent gynecology, gynecologic management for women with breast cancer, gynecologic urology, pelvic pain, premenstrual syndrome, reproductive gynecology, including menopause, etc. 
?    To perform telehealth nursing for the OBGYN Answer Line which includes, but not limited to:
o    Triage live telephone calls for OBGYN patients with symptomatic concerns
o    Complete independent assessment and disposition of patients to the appropriate level of care
o    Initiate diagnostic and therapeutic measures as indicated per institutional policy. 
o    Provide education via live call and through the portal messages.
o    Document detailed encounter note.
o    Manage prescription refill requests and secure patient messages.
o    Adapts communication style to patients representing diverse personal, professional, cultural, and socio- economic backgrounds.
o    Uses excellent listening skills to receive detailed information.
o    Utilize electronic protocol database to assess, educate and document all health information in an accurate and expedient fashion.
o    Coordinate care with offsites clinics and labor and delivery
o    Respond to urgent/emergent patient care needs
o    Counseling on health promotion and management of patient care plan
o    Schedule patient?s for appointment in the ambulatory care clinics

?    Proficiency with typing and electronic health record documentation.
?    Ability to manage complex clinical issues utilizing assessment skills, protocols, and evidence-based interventions.
?    Demonstrated accountability and dependability for example, completion of work, mandatories, goal setting within established timelines.
?    Willingness to adapt to different populations ie: pediatrics, OB/GYN, adult medicine as patient demands. Orientation and training would be provided for new subspecialties within primary care based on expansion of division.

This UMPNC RN posting is posted as Nursing Framework LEVEL C.
Actual Nursing Framework LEVEL and salary will be determined at time of hire.
Nursing Framework levels range from Level A to Level F.

Required qualifications must be met by the candidate in order to be interviewed and considered for the position.

Required Qualifications*

?    Current license to practice nursing in Michigan.
?    Minimum of one (1) year recent (within the last two (2) years) experience in an OBGYN centralized telephone triage clinic specializing in GYN and OB patients.
?    Specialty GYN ambulatory care triage experience in urogynecology, Vulvar, Peds GYN, Transgender Patients, Minimally Invasive Surgery, and Chronic Pelvic Pain. 
?    BLS certification

Desired Qualifications*

?    Greater than five (5) years Labor and delivery OB triage experience 
?    Greater than five (5) years OBGYN experience.
?    Previous experience using clinical protocols to make decisions for adult patients.
?    Experience with MiChart, EPIC, Cisco Finesse, Word, and Excel
 

Work Schedule

Hours/Week: 0.5 FTE (40 hours in a two-week period: 16 hours one week, 24 hours the next).

Shift/Hours/Days: Day Shift, Mon-Fri with variable start times based on clinic needs.

This position consists of a hybrid work schedule of at least 50% of appointment fraction onsite but is subject to change as the needs of the unit change.

Onsite work locations are at 2500 Green Rd, Ste 100, Ann Arbor, MI 48105 or Brighton Specialty Clinics, 7500 Challis Rd, Brighton, MI 48116, and other work locations as needed to support patient populations seen in different places.

This position requires onsite training.

 

Note: All new employees will be expected to float to a designated unit(s) in times of low census
