Montgomery College has an immediate need for a full-time Photographer and Digital Asset Manager in the Central Services Building. The standard work schedule is Monday-Friday, 8:30 am-5:00 pm., hours subject to change to accommodate evening and weekend events. This is a bargaining, nonexempt, grade 29 position. Under general supervision, the incumbent establishes and maintains the overall image direction and management of photography services for marketing, graphic design, web, media relations, public relations, and other communication purposes. The incumbent creates and manages all types of professional quality imagery including but not limited to portrait, event, and artwork reproduction photography of faculty, staff, students, facilities, architecture, and public events. In addition to providing photography services, the incumbent uses software to manage the College’s digital assets. These digital assets include photos, video files, graphics, logos, audio files, portable document formats (PDFs), marketing copy, and collateral for advertisements.

Contacts and interactions vary and involve multiple constituencies such as direct interactions with administrators, faculty, staff, students, contractors, representatives of external organizations, and community members.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Provide professional quality photographic services to the College community, using creative and artistic skill.

  • Manage the College’s digital assets using a digital asset management database. Acquire, catalog, manage, store, and protect digital assets contained in a digital library.

  • Develop strategies for managing digital assets such as version control, collaboration, metadata tagging, search capabilities, file permissions, and usage rights.

  • Oversee the acquisition, scheduling, and management of freelance photographers that will be assigned to various photo shoots across the College community. Actively recruit student photographers and, with approval, oversee the hiring of a photography intern.

  • Manage the College’s photo studio: Scheduling photo shoots, log headshots, and upkeep all studio lighting and camera equipment.

  • Serve as photographic expert and resource to the College community: Consult, educate, and guide College employees on how to capture events.

  • Ability to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public.

  • Ability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to: a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine.

  • Ability to effectively use photography equipment.

  • Ability to carry all photography equipment necessary to photo shoot locations and to carry equipment throughout shoot, and stand for long periods of time on photography shoots.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in photography, communications, or a related field that included coursework in photography or an equivalent combination of education, training, certification and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and expertise to perform the essential functions of the job may be considered. A bachelor degree is preferred.

  • Three years of progressively responsible experience as a professional photographer is required. Two years oversight and/or management experience is preferred.

  • An equivalent combination of education, training, certification and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and expertise to perform the essential functions of the job may be considered.

Hiring Range $33.49 – $43.55 per hour. Initial salary placement is based on candidate experience and internal equity.  Please include a complete resume including all relevant and related work experience.
