Academic Success Navigator, TRIO Student Support Services

Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY 

The Office of TRIO Programs is dedicated to increasing college access, college retention, college completion and transfer of eligible CCA students. The TRIO programs focus on students who are underrepresented in higher education, financially under-resourced, first-generation college students, students with disabilities, nontraditional or otherwise educationally disadvantaged students.Wefacilitatestudenttransitions,buildcommunityandguidestudentsthroughthecompletionof their two-year degree in preparation for a successful transition to a four-year institution or entry to the workforce.
TheTRIOStudent Support Services Traditional(SSS) and the TRIO Student Support Services English as a Second Language (SSS-ESL) programs are designed to help students navigate college policies and systems while also working towards addressing systemic and environmental barriers that prevent first- generation, low-income students from obtaining a post-secondary credential. The TRIO SSS programs provide group advising, one-on-one advising, peer mentoring, tutoring, four-year college visits, cultural events, and specific academic success workshops focused on career, transfer planning, financial literacy, and more. This position will work with both of the TRIO Student Support Services programs - Traditional and English as a Second Language.
The Academic Success Navigator will create initial connections and outreach to students who are newly accepted into one of the SSS programs. In those initial outreach attempts, the Navigator will provide students with SSS onboarding and encouragement ensuring students are aware of their resources and support while in the SSS program as well as the requirements of the program. The Navigator will help studentsgetaccesstoandbegincompletingtheironlineSSSorientation,ensuretheyareenrolledintheir D2L SSS account, and will aid in the collection of their SSS required intake paperwork. The Navigator will then provide students with a connection point to their assigned SSS Lead Academic Coach by providing referrals and scheduling the students first academic advising appointment. The Navigator will also aid students in preliminary and supportive academic steps such as setting up MyCCA portal accounts, registering for classes once advised, assisting with completion of the FAFSA or other financial aid and scholarship applications, completing CCA admissions steps where needed, getting tutoring appointments scheduled, or accessing other CCA resources. As students are completing their degree at CCA, this role will also aid in their transfer admissions process to include helping with transfer admissions applications, scholarship applications, and reviewing students Admitted Student Checklists for completion. This position will work collaboratively with the TRIO Lead Academic Coaches, Project Coordinators, and SSS Director to ensure students are receiving regular touch points and getting assistance as needed to support their success. Additionally, this role will help both programs
with recruitment efforts, event programming, and workshop delivery where needed. Please note this is a one-year grant funded position, funded through August 30, 2025 only.

DUTIES& RESPONSIBILITIES:
Student Support:

  • Assist up to 300 SSS participants by providing assistance with registration, applying for financialaid,transferadmissionsprocess,collegenavigation,andreferralstoappropriate services.
  • Provide high level outreach and providing care contacts regularly.
  • Maintainstrongdocumentationofcontactswithstudentsandservicescompleted.
  • Proactivelyoutreachestostudentsonaregularbasistoensurestudentsareprogressing academically and able to satisfy program participation requirements.
  • Assists students in navigating the transfer process including referring students to the transferinstitutionadmissionsrepresentatives,assistingwiththeadmissionsapplication, encouraging participation in campus visits, transfer fairs, transfer workshops, and other activities designed to support seamless transition from a community college to a university.
  • Assists students in understanding the financial aid process, assists with on-time completion of FAFSA applications, helps with college and third-party scholarship applications,reviewingscholarshipessaysorreferringstudentstotutoringsessions.
  • Provide referrals to internal and external resources as appropriate for things such as careeradvisingfromCareerServices,counselingservicesfrommentalhealthcounselors, academic support from tutors, housing or food assistance from external resources, etc.
Recruitment, Programming Development and Support:
  • Assists with the delivery and development of the TRIO KEY Connections Conference, TRIO Family Kick Off Day, and orientation programs.
  • Assists with the recruitment and selection of new TRIO participants including hosting recruitmentsessions,representingTRIOatrecruitingevents,respondingtoinquiries,and reviewing student applications for preliminary consideration.
  • Assistswithorleadsthecreationandfacilitationofvariousstudentdevelopmentandskill building workshops or activities.
  • Aids in the delivery of cultural events and academic programs not usually available to disadvantagedstudents,includingfulleventplanningfromconceptiontoimplementation.
  • Develops and implements other programs as needed that are designed to meet the purpose of the SSS and SSS-ESL programs.
  • HoldregularweeklyofficehoursintheTRIOOffice.Thisisahybridworkingpositionbut does require on campus support at least 3 days per week.
Grant Reporting and Accountability:
  • AccuratelydocumentsthecontactswithSSSandSSS-ESLstudentsaccordingto program requirements and program regulations.
  • EnsureproperstorageandauditofstudentfilesandformsincompliancewithFERPA laws and TRIO regulations, maintaining the integrity of each student file.
  • ProvidesstudentleveldatatotheDirectorandProjectCoordinatorwhenrequestedandin accordance with program requirements.

REQUIREDQUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of one(1) years of experience with TRIO programs, academic support programs, or similar programs for disadvantaged college students.
  • Professionalorpersonalexperiencesinovercomingbarrierssimilartothoseconfronting SSS participants.
  • Formal training and/or work experience promoting college graduation and transfer rates for SSS-Eligible students.
  • Knowledgeofacademicadvisingandcollege,career,financialaid,andeconomicliteracy activities and related services for low-income and first-generation college students.
  • Fluent in English in reading, writing, and speaking. Second Language(any)preferred.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

Salary Range: Anticipated starting salary range: $50,968.00 annually. This salary is determined by the qualifications of the selected candidate balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information. CCA offers an excellent benefit plan, including generous leave, holiday, and education benefits. Full time employees immediately upon hire earn 15 hours a month annual leave and 10 hours a month sick leave.
