Job Description

Assistant Director of Student Success: The Assistant Director of Student Success is responsible to the Director of Student Success. This is a security-sensitive position and is subject to a criminal history record. (Texas Government Code 411.094 & Texas Education Code 51.215)

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

1. Assist in providing leadership to planning, coordination, training, supervision, and management of the Student Success Specialists, Veterans Affairs Benefits Coordinator, and Early College Start Coordinator for all locations of Vernon College.

2. Provide leadership and supervision to the Early College Start Coordinator and Veterans Affairs/Dual Credit Administrative Assistant and corresponding recruitment, registration, retention, and completion dual credit programming.

3. Serve as the primary lead for the Financial Aid for Swift Transfer (FAST) program. This includes creating eligibility rosters as outlined by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, responding to inquiries, and coordinating the eligibility roster submission with the Director of Enrollment Management/Registrar.

4. Assist in implementation and maintenance of processes to enhance retention and completion of a certificate or associate degree and/or successful transfer through holistic advising.

5. Assist in developing and maintaining contacts with area K-12 constituents including high school dual credit liaisons.

6. Provide guidance to ensure effective orientations, presentations, and programs.

7. Providing academic advising, academic improvement program, academic coaching, and emotional support services and intervention to dual credit students.

8. Providing academic advising, academic coaching, and emotional support services and intervention for all students during peak times.

9. Coordinate with the Director of Student Success to develop program plans with measurable goals and objectives using institutional data and best practices.

10. Coordinate with the Director of Student Success to develop a comprehensive retention/completion plan with measurable goals and objectives using institutional data and best practices.

11. Work collaboratively with Instructional Services to ensure course availability, early alert processes, and developmental placement.

12. Supervise Early College Start Coordinator and Student Success classified staff, including evaluations, staff development, and training.

13. Attend regional, state, and national conferences as necessary.

14. Make recommendations to the Vice President of Student Services, and assisting with processes and practices to enhance retention, student engagement, and effective advising.

15. Possess basic knowledge of all Vernon College programs including entrance requirements, class scheduling, and potential employment opportunities.

16. Function as a team member of the Student Services professional staff in the development and implementation of processes necessary to accomplish the goals and philosophy of the division and the College.

17. To assume other responsibilities on assignment by the Director of Student Success, Vice President of Student Services, and the President.

Travel Required: Weekly

Experience and Training: Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills, both oral and written. Good customer service skills. Must be detail oriented.

Education: Master's degree in counseling or related field required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Ability to establish/maintain appropriate and effective communication and interpersonal relations throughout the campus, college, and local community. Maintain a positive, professional, and businesslike manner to students and other personnel, at all times. Familiarity with assessment practices including data analytics. Knowledge of and experience with computer systems, programs and applications.

Preferred Qualifications: 3-5 years' experience in counseling or related field. Prior experience working in a college student services/success environment is preferred.

Minimum Educational Qualifications: Master's degree in counseling or related field is required

Salary or Salary Range: This is a full-time 12 month position with full time benefits. This position is rated as 420 points on the Administrative salary schedule. The salary is $51,183 to $55,138 based on experience. Applications will be accepted until September 27, 2024. This position is available on October 7, 2024.
