Senior Development Coordinator

Job Description

Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) supports Johns Hopkins’ focus on research, teaching and patient care, and its role as a national and global leader in higher education. We create and foster enduring relationships that result in advocacy and philanthropic support for Johns Hopkins University & Medicine—strengthening the institution through partnerships with donors, alumni, volunteer leaders, faculty, students, staff, and patients.


The Senior Development Coordinator is a critical member of the Fund for Johns Hopkins Medicine (FJHM) Central team, which includes central fundraising, stewardship, events, and communications. Reporting to the Assistant Director of FJHM Central Development Operations and Design Strategy, the Sr. Development Coordinator will provide high-level administrative support to both the Senior Director and Director for the team, assist the larger team with administrative tasks, manage the FJHM leadership acknowledgement process, process contributions, and draft acknowledgements for central donors.


Key responsibilities: 

1. Learn about the institutional mission and the case for the philanthropic support of general institutional priorities as they arise.

2. Provide comprehensive administrative support the team’s Senior Director and the Director of Principal Gifts Strategy, including calendar management, meeting logistics, running reports, file and document organization, drafting agendas, composing and editing correspondence, booking travel, ordering supplies, and tracking project results and deliverables.

3. Provide support for the broader FJHM Central team on various administrative tasks.

4. Manage the FJHM Leadership Gift Acknowledgment process on behalf of JHM leadership, including the Dean of the School of Medicine, Johns Hopkins Health System leadership, and Johns Hopkins University leaders. This task includes running weekly acknowledgement reports, drafting and proofreading letters, circulating letters through our internal approval process, liaising with the leadership offices to facilitate the sending of letters, and documenting the action in our donor database.

5. Manage the acknowledgement process for central fundraising areas like Friends of Medicine and the Johns Hopkins Hospital Department of Nursing donors. This task includes running weekly acknowledgement reports, drafting tributary notifications, circulating letters through the review process, facilitating the sending of letters, and documenting the action in our donor database.

6. Maintain comprehensive knowledge of JHAS (Johns Hopkins Advancement System), our donor and prospect database. Enter action notes, solicitation approaches, and proposals for fundraisers on the team as needed; create and run reports.

7. Manage administrative fundraising operations for the FJHM Central team, to include gift processing, ensuring accurate database entry and error-free deposits for contributions, tracking and creating online giving forms, managing campaigns and appeals in JHAS, and collaborating with the team’s gift officers on solicitation communications.

8. In collaboration with other designated administrative staff, assist with the processing of incoming mail and accurate triaging to appropriate departments, including gift deposits for donations at other locations.

9. Develop a thorough working knowledge of the SAP financial system. Process receipts and expense reimbursements for the FJHM Central team.

10. Initiate prospect and donor research and risk assessment requests.

11. Participate in the execution of events and stewardship experiences such as Live the Mission and Precision Experiences.

12. Other duties as assigned.



Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or graduation equivalent.
  • Five years related administrative experience, with one year experience in a development office preferred.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in institutional advancement preferred.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and maintain a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality is imperative.
  • The ideal candidate will be willing to work outside of normal business hours on occasion.
  • Desired foundational competencies include:
  •      Excellent organizational skills
  •     Strong computer literacy skills with the ability to learn new systems and software; expert knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite programs
  •     Strong writing, editorial, and verbal communications skills
  •     High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
