Summary of Position

Under general direction of the Department chairs in WGS and Philosophy, this position provides high level administrative support to the Women’s and Gender Studies Department and the Philosophy Department. Responsibilities are in the areas of academic courses and curriculum management; supervision of hourly staff, strategic data analysis; program coordination and compliance; budgeting; outreach with campus collaborators and program alumni. These responsibilities require independent decision making; collaboration with faculty, staff and students.

High school diploma or equivalent and 6 years of experience, or Bachelor’s degree in Women’s Studies or Philosophy, Higher Education Administration or related field. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, social media and other forms of data management in higher education (Blackboard, WebI, website management programs, or their equivalents). This person must have excellent communication and supervisory skills.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

Working knowledge of Women’s Studies or Philosophy as an academic discipline and experience working effectively with diverse populations.

Duty/Responsibility

ADMINISTRATIVE MANAGEMENT
  • Provide assistance to WGS and Philosophy department chairs with all administrative aspects of the departments including resolving problems, participating in planning for development and growth, and acting on Chairs’ behalf as appropriate.
  • Serve as liaison and resource with academic and/or student services departments/ organizations.
  • Coordinate coverage for Dept. offices as needed.
  • Perform a wide array of complex responsibilities in support of program activities, project planning and monitoring, specialized communications, and special projects.
  • Serve as liaison regarding key maintenance and telecommunications matters.
  • Review, evaluate and recommend updating, and/or developing policies and/or creating changes in departmental operating, methods and academic procedures.
  • Complete special projects, and oversee programs (such as P&T cases, department reviews, awards, accreditation renewals, etc.)
  • Prepare, organize, and maintain appropriate resources, reports and statistical summaries on all facets of the program including financial, enrollment information, internship, faculty evaluation data, etc.
  • Oversee all course scheduling in concert with the Dept. chairs. Facilitate the development of interdisciplinary course offerings and disseminate that information as appropriate.

FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT
  • With dept. chairs plan the budget development for departments and manage all financial aspects of the departments coordinating the departments’ financial affairs (including budget recommendation, preparation and expenditure control) and informing departments chairs on balances and expenditures.

  • Supervise student work study and hourly staff: including recruitment, interviewing, training, providing direction, and assessing job performance, keeping in mind diversity initiatives.

FACULTY SUPPORT
  • Assist with instructor hiring and T.A. support for Philosophy and serve as a resource to these instructors with respect to campus systems and resources including reviewing academic records and course assignments.
  • Provide support for promotion and tenure and search process.
