Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Seo laboratory is seeking a talented and motivated faculty assistant to conduct research in uterine and placenta biology, with a focus on the interactions between the conceptus and the uterus that mediate implantation and placentation. Approaches used include molecular and cellular biology methods, powerful imaging technologies, transcriptomics, metabolomics as well as in vitro cell/tissue culture. The lab utilizes and integrates research across multiple mammalian species, including pigs, sheep and cattle to pursue comparative studies across species that have different types of implantation and placentation to gain insights into the physiological, cellular and molecular events that support successful pregnancy.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
A bachelor’s degree in a biology-related field is required.

Experience:
Previous lab experience in molecular biology is required.

Preferences:

Preferences:
  • A master’s degree in a biology-related field is preferred.
  • Experience working with techniques including (but not limited to) cell culture, transfection, immunocytochemistry, image analysis, qPCR, and western blots is preferred.

Physical Demands

This position requires the lifting and moving of moderately weighted goods (20-50 lbs., for example, Centrifuge Rotors) up to 25 feet, operating tissue culture cells or zebrafish tanks, and utilizing hazardous chemicals, radioisotopes, and compressed gases. While performing the duties within this job, the employee frequently is required to maneuver, handle, or feel objects, tools, or instrument controls. The position also requires prolonged periods of standing to include maneuvering obstacles which may require stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling and accessing necessary tools and objects. Furthermore, the employee is regularly required to operate a computer.

To operate specific lab equipment, the employee must utilize devices and make observations from diverse angles of perception: adjusting exploratory and imaging devices as needed. Employees may work in conditions with fluctuating temperatures: including spaces up to 83 F for extended periods.
