Job Description Summary

Student Life serves as the hub for students at Santa Fe College and is comprised of student activities, student clubs and organizations, civic engagement and service, student government, leadership programs, the Student Engagement Center, international student support and advising, Saints Food Share, the Student Life Business Office, and Student Life marketing. Student Life also provides student-centered services such as access to a recreation room, computer lab, art gallery, ID card services, and holds evening hours.

Civic Engagement and Service (CES) at Santa Fe College promotes community involvement and civic participation through volunteering, voter outreach, advocacy, and campus-community partnerships. The Office of Civic Engagement and Service Specialist is responsible for managing the daily operations of the office and developing, implementing, and assessing co-curricular educational programs.

Job Description

Responsibilities and Duties Include:

  • Manages the day-to-day operations of the Civic Engagement and Service Office, ensuring successful operation and escalating issues to Associate Director when necessary.
  • Actively participates as a member of the Student Life team by assisting with its successful operation and administration, as well as hires, trains, and evaluates direct reports when appropriate.
  • Plans, implements, and assesses co-curricular educational programs, including multicultural and/or national observances such as MLK Day of Service and Veterans Day Observance.
  • Connects students with relevant civic engagement and learning opportunities, as well as on- and off-campus resources for food and basic needs.
  • Cultivates and maintains partnerships with community-based agencies and organizations.
  • Develops and implements meaningful service and volunteer opportunities in SF's local communities.
  • Provides direct support to faculty in identifying service/community outreach efforts related to civic engagement and community service.
  • Promotes civic and community engagement on campus, including presentations to student groups and in the classroom.
  • Liaises with civic-focused and service-focused student organizations.
  • Encourages student leaders to focus on civic engagement and community service.
  • Research and updates community and civic engagement educational and awareness information.
  • Serves on the Saints Food Share/Food Pantry committee and collaborates with stakeholders.
  • Represents Student Life at a variety of college-wide events including SF Live, College Night, and Open House.
  • Attends weekly staff meetings, weekly supervisor meetings committee meetings, and other assigned meetings related to activities in the Civic Engagement and Service Office.
  • Complies with all published College Rules, procedures, guidelines, and laws/regulations governing public employees, including but not limited to those related to document retention and destruction, FERPA, and confidentiality.
  • Strictly honors the privacy, security, and confidentiality of student records and other sensitive information according to appropriate state, federal, and college regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Provides service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible, and professional engagement.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Reports to: Associate Director, Student Life

QUALIFICATIONS

Required: A bachelor's degree with two (2) years of experience in student development, civic engagement, social justice, or a related area and/or a combination of education and related experience equal to six (6) years, as well as prior supervisory experience.

Additional Requirements: Must possess a valid Florida Driver License and be authorized to drive for the college. A criminal background check will be conducted.

Preferred: A master's degree with two (2) years of experience working within college civic engagement or community service programs and/or within civic/community service organizations. Prior experience in program assessment and evaluation as well as with managing large amounts of data, including gathering and tracking program participation and evaluation data.

  • Systems & Software - proficient level of knowledge of Microsoft Office and/or relevant position software programs.
  • Detail Oriented - Proven accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Multi-task - Ability to expeditiously organize, coordinate, manage, prioritize, and perform multiple tasks simultaneously to swiftly assess a situation, determine a logical course of action, and apply the appropriate response.
