The temporary Research Associate will aid in multiple projects by collecting sound research data, presenting results to stakeholders, writing technical papers for journal submission, and summarizing results in reports to the funding agencies. The Associate will also work with graduate students on the team by mentoring them through the completion of papers for publication in top academic journals. They will also be responsible for managing multiple projects while meeting deadlines in a timely manner.
Responsibilities
- Lead investigation and application of novel technologies for enhancing food safety and quality
- Assess and optimize plasma and UV technologies for surface sanitization of shell eggs
- Perform experiments using continuous-based plasma-activated water system for food and food contact sanitization
- Create and proof-read technical papers and presentations for national and international conferences
- Analyze data using various statistical methods
- Write, edit, and submit manuscripts to peer-reviewed journals
- Write reports to funding agencies summarizing data and presenting the implications of the results
- Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) and training videos on the operation and maintenance of lab equipment
- Train new students and post-doctoral researchers in lab ethics, food microbiology, and experimental designs
- Mentor students in troubleshooting research experiments

Minimum Experience/Education
- Ph.D. degree in Food Science or a related field

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
- Proven work experience of a minimum of 3.5 years as a Graduate Research Assistant or similar role and previous experience in working food industry
- Excellent knowledge and skills in experimental designs, food microbiology, and food engineering
- Ability to work under pressure
- Proficient time management and administrative skills
- High-quality scientific writing skills with previous publications preferred
- Previous experience with non-thermal processing like cold plasma and UV technologies
