Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

Counselor of Faculty Staff Assistance Program (FSAP) provides assessment, referral and counseling and coaching to all full and part-time faculty, staff and their immediate family members and retirees. Individual and departmental consultations are also provided, generally in regard to workplace issues. Administrative assistance is also provided to the program

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
  • Master’s degree from an accredited University in either Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Social Work, or other degrees meeting eligibility requirements for a licensure. At least 5 years of directly related experience.
  • Currently licensed to practice in Maryland as a Psychologist, Professional Counselor (LCPC), or Clinical Social Worker (LCSW-C).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • In addition to skills listed under Education, the Counselor must be aware of administrative skills necessary to administer an employee assistance program, including report writing, computer abilities, including an ability to work with spreadsheets, knowledge of databases and word processing. 
  • Public speaking and writing skills are essential. 
  • Organizational development skills are also necessary to assist departments in addressing problems from a larger systems perspective. 
  • Must be able to type letters, file and schedule all appointments.

Additional Certifications:

  • Currently licensed to practice in Maryland as a Psychologist, Professional Counselor (LCPC), or Clinical Social Worker (LCSW-C).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Duty/Responsibility (1): | Individual assessment, referral and counseling provided to faculty, staff and their immediate family members, retirees and students.
Percentage (1): | 70%

Essential Duty/Responsibility (2): | Campus-wide trainings, seminars and orientations/critical incident debriefings
Percentage (2): | 15%

Essential Duty/Responsibility (3): | Consultation, coaching provided to managers and supervisors for instance : troubled employees and departments
Percentage (3): | 10%

Essential Duty/Responsibility (4): | Documentation/record keeping, follow-up activities with employees and referral sources
Percentage (4): | 5%
