Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Feller Center is the BSOS College’s central hub for academic advising and career planning services for over 5000 undergraduate students. This position will join a team of professional staff and graduate students who meet with and support undergraduate students at important junctures throughout their college careers. This position will train as a general BSOS academic advisor and will take primary responsibility for advising students in the interdisciplinary Social Data Science (SDSC) undergraduate major.

Responsibilities include:
  • Serve as primary SDSC major-level advisor for students enrolled in the new Social Data Science (SDSC) major, including appointments and drop-in advising. This position also works closely with the SDSC Director & Assistant Program Director on SDSC initiatives and activities.
  • Oversee department-level advising for the SDSC major; including working closely with counterparts in the I-School and in BSOS Departments to harmonize academic advising materials and services for students across both colleges, and co-host events and initiatives for SDSC students. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required.
  • Provide a range of college-level academic advising services for students in the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences in the Feller Center, including appointments and drop-in advising 4-year planning, course selection, university policies/procedures.
  • Teach a 1-credit course for new students in the BSOS College.
  • Undertake special projects as the needs of the SDSC major and the Feller Center develop.

Education:
Bachelor’s degree.

Experience:

At least 2 years of relevant professional experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to work quickly, independently & cooperatively, and be accurate and flexible required.
  • Strong assessment, organizational, administrative, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Experience working with educational data and cloud-based educational information systems like Salesforce and Workday.

Preferences:

Preferences:
  • Master’s degree is preferred. Degree in Higher Education Administration/Student Affairs/Counseling/Psychology or related field preferred. 
  • Knowledge of human development, student development and higher education preferred.
