Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Senior Financial Coordinator is responsible for the areas of purchasing, account analysis, resource allocation, financial transactions and travel requests within ARLIS, ensuring that resources are well-managed, organized, accurately reported and comply with federal and state regulations and University of Maryland policies and procedures. Responsibilities include processing procurement and travel-related requests, maintaining an organized system of purchasing and travel records, coordinating complicated financial transactions, maintaining spreadsheets, extract data and build reports, analyzing financial accounts, initiating corrective action as needed and performing other finance-related duties as assigned. The Senior Financial Coordinator will interface with ARLIS business operations personnel (Finance, Project Management, IT, HR, Security, Comms), as well as PIs and other researchers to conduct assigned duties. As a member of the Finance Team, the Senior Financial Coordinator will assist with other finance-related activities as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelor’s Degree.

Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in finance, accounting, financial analysis or auditing.
  • Experience coordinating purchasing and travel transactions using electronic systems in a higher education environment.
  • Experience with Kuali Financial System, Workday Financial, or similar system.
  • Demonstrated experience analyzing data in Excel spreadsheets and creating reports.
  • Experience at an institute of higher education.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of electronic purchasing and travel systems such as KFS, Shell Shop, Workday, Concur or similar systems.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects with overlapping deadlines, Demonstrated skills using Microsoft Excel, Access Teams, PowerPoint, SharePoint and Word.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to analyze financials, develop plans and ensure successful and efficient implementation of processes.
  • Ability to take initiative, analyze problems, prepare and articulate solutions. Ability to prepare complex budgets for multi-year interdisciplinary projects.
  • Ability to work independently on complex assignments to include providing significant input in response to RP or ROM requests.
  • Demonstrate diplomacy and ability to interact effectively with all staff levels with the organization and its customers.
  • Ability to analyze problems, prepares, and articulates solutions.

Preferences:

Preferences:
  • Experience with the University of Maryland’s financial and electronic purchasing systems (KFS, Shell Shop, etc.).
  • Knowledge of University of Maryland policies and procedures in relation to sponsored project accounting, travel, and purchasing.
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel to conduct daily functions.
  • Working knowledge of OMB’s Uniform Guidance and the FAR.
  • Master’s Degree with a concentration in accounting, finance, business management or related field.
