24-hour Dietary Recall Specialist

Job Description

We are seeking a 24-Hour Dietary Recall Specialist who will be responsible for conducting detailed dietary intake interviews to collect accurate and comprehensive data on participants' food and beverage consumption over the past 24 hours. This role is essential for nutritional studies, research projects, and health assessments. The specialist will ensure data quality and accuracy through thorough interviews and meticulous data entry.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities


Conduct Dietary Recalls

  • Perform in-depth 24-hour dietary recall interviews with participants, using standardized protocols and tools.
  • Collect detailed information on food and beverage consumption, including portion sizes, preparation methods, and brand names.


Data Entry and Management

  • Accurately enter dietary recall data into specified databases or software.
  • Ensure all data is recorded following established guidelines and protocols.


Participant Interaction

  • Build rapport with participants to facilitate accurate and honest reporting.
  • Address any questions or concerns participants may have about the dietary recall process.


Quality Control

  • Review collected data for completeness and accuracy.
  • Conduct follow-up interviews if necessary to clarify or complete dietary recall information.


Collaboration

  • Work closely with other team members, including nutritionists, dietitians, and researchers, to support overall project goals.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to discussions on data collection methods and findings.


Training and Development

  • Stay current with best practices in dietary recall methodologies and nutrition research.
  • Attend training sessions and workshops as required.


Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in data entry and familiarity with dietary assessment software (e.g., NDSR, ASA24) is desirable, but not required.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings and weekends, as required.


Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certifications

  • Certification in Nutrition Data System for Research (NDSR) is required. Can obtain certification after hired.


Any specific physical requirements for the job

  • This position may require sitting for extended periods while conducting interviews and entering data.


Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or graduation equivalent.
  • Two years related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Fluent in Spanish.
  • AA, BS, or BA in Nutrition, Dietetics, Public Health, Biological Science, Sports Medicine, or a related field. Or an Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND)/ Commission of Dietetic Registration (CDR) approved Dietetic Technician License.
  • Previous experience in conducting dietary recalls or nutritional assessments is preferred.

Starting Salary Range: $15.70 - $26.25 HRLY ($20,480 targeted; Commensurate with experience) 
Employee group: Casual / On Call 
Schedule: Various shifts including evenings and weekends, as required. Up to 10 hrs per week. 
Exempt Status: Non-Exempt
