Job Description

The Department of International Health is seeking a Research Project Coordinator who will primarily support the work of the International Vaccine Access Center (IVAC) at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.


The mission of the International Vaccine Access Center (IVAC) at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health is to accelerate global access to life-saving vaccines through the development and implementation of evidence-based policies. The work of IVAC focuses on disease epidemiology, vaccine economics and supply, monitoring and evaluation of vaccine introduction and Center programs, and advocacy and communications activities to increase the profile of and global action on vaccine-preventable disease. http://www.jhsph.edu/research/centers-and-institutes/ivac/.


This individual will work with the Principal Investigator of the MOMENTUM Country and Global Leadership (The Project) to assist in the management and coordination of research activities for multiple projects.


The Project is a large global project in its fifth years and is part of a suite of innovative awards funded by the U.S. (United States). Agency for International Development (USAID) to holistically improve family planning and maternal and child health, including immunization in partner countries around the world. The project focuses on technical and capacity development assistance (TCDA) to ministries of health and other country partners to improve health outcomes. Over the lifespan of the project, the goal is to achieve scaled-up and sustained access to and use of evidence-based, high-quality MNCH/FP/RH information, health care, and interventions; accelerated reductions in maternal, newborn, and child mortality and morbidity in USAID partner countries; increased adaptive learning and use of evidence in MNCH/FP/ FH programming through sustained partner country technical leadership. Improved capacity of partner country institutions. Increased cross-sectoral collaboration and innovative partnerships between MNCH/FP/RH and non-MNCH/FP/RH organizations.


The Project is led by Jhpiego, with IVAC and Save the Children as two core partners and ten other implementing partners.


The immunization team is responsible for a portfolio of projects that include technical assistance to WHO on Immunization Agenda 2030 and a learning agenda around health systems disruption and resilience following COVID-19. Other ongoing activities are: a multi-country DHS analysis of zero-dose children, a one-year bridge project to support the Tanzanian government close immunization gaps and maintain gains from prior projects, scoping studies and evidence synthesis on HPV and adolescent health, advancing the urban immunization agenda in national EPI programs, addressing barriers to service integration in the context of immunization and promoting the role of faith-based organizations and religious leaders in addressing vaccine hesitancy.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage meetings and communications with external research partners, committees, and workgroups, including setting and distributing agendas, preparing meeting materials, and preparing minutes.
  • Contribute to the development, review, and revision of reports and scientific papers.
  • Review, compile, and succinctly summarize information from varied sources, including the scientific literature in vaccines, as needed to inform study decision-making.
  • Track and manage multiple program activities and project-related issues simultaneously. Develop systems and tools for organizing and tracking project activities, timelines, and study implementation.
  • Provide management and coordination of projects with a high level of organization, attention to detail, accuracy, and interpersonal and communication skills sensitive to the needs of the internal research team, project sponsors, and partnering external organizations.
  • Generate and maintain professional and complete documentation for projects and deliverables.
  • Communicate regularly with principal investigators and collaborators to review data harmonization and data analysis progress.
  • Make strategic recommendations and implement decisions to meet project goals.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail are required.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive the achievement of project deliverables in a timely manner.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.
  • Additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree or higher in Epidemiology or Public Health preferred (or related field).
  • Five years related experience, including demonstrated supervisory or lead responsibilities.
