The North Carolina Veterinary Medical Foundation, Inc. works to provide assistance to help support educational activities, maintain a prominent faculty, encourage diverse research, and facilitate cooperative interactions by developing partnerships with alums and friends through communications and development activities to increase private support for the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM).
Essential Job Duties
The Director of Philanthropy I is responsible for identifying, qualifying, soliciting, and stewarding major gift donors to NC State University. This position will serve as a part of the College of Veterinary Medicine Advancement team and will focus on maximizing support to all areas of the College of Veterinary Medicine and university in an effort to maximize support to all areas of the University. As appropriate, the Director will also identify and coordinate the management of key volunteers in assigned regions. The Director will be expected to manage a portfolio of discovery and actively managed prospects while also collaborating with fundraising colleagues across campus.
Duties and responsibilities include:
- Identification, qualification, cultivation and solicitation of prospects to create and grow a pipeline of major gift ($50,000 and above) donors.
- Strategic development and management of a portfolio with approximately 150 prospects and donors capable of making gifts of $50,000 or more.
- Conduct 144 personal meetings with prospects and donors annually and participate in 12 solicitations annually
- Creation and implementation of comprehensive strategies to leverage networks and maximize fundraising results in assigned geographic regions.
- Identification, coordination and management of key volunteers in assigned geographic regions.
- Collaboration with colleagues to help align donors’ philanthropic interests with various priorities across campus.
- Coordination of stewardship efforts as needed with appropriate University Advancement and other campus colleagues.
- Perform other duties as required or assigned. Attend a variety of events throughout the year. Regular travel (local and out of state) and occasional night and weekend work is required for this position.

Minimum Education and Experience
- Requires a relevant post-Baccalaureate degree with a minimum of three (3) years or greater of related professional experience OR
- A relevant undergraduate degree and a minimum of five (5) years or greater of relevant experience may be substituted for the advanced degree
Other Required Qualifications
Experience in major gift fundraising, preferably at a higher education institution, exceptional writing, organizational, and communications skills, and the ability to work with faculty, administrators, and volunteers in a large, complex research university.

Preferred Qualifications
- Proven experience closing six-figure gifts
- Have previous capital campaign experience and a strong knowledge of all aspects of major gift move management, individual, and planned giving
- Experience in a major university setting is preferred but not mandatory
- Strong interpersonal skills, including public speaking, written professional communication, and an ability to work effectively in a complex institution
- Experience in grateful patient fundraising

- A valid NC driver’s license must be obtained within 60 days of start date and must be maintained throughout employment.
