Essential Job Duties

The College of Veterinary Medicine at North Carolina State University (NC State) invites outstanding candidates to apply for two open 3-year residency traditional-track positions in veterinary anatomic pathology beginning July 2025. The training program focuses on hands-on learning of anatomic pathology and ACVP board preparation under the supervision of eight ACVP board-certified anatomic pathologists, with specialties in aquatics/fish, zoo/exotics, swine, oral, and ocular pathology as well as pedagogy and viral oncogenesis. The resident will experience a busy, diverse caseload on both necropsy and biopsy services with curricular teaching and research opportunities. The caseload is predominantly cats, dogs, small ruminants, horses, exotics, zoo animals, and aquatics, with smaller numbers of lab animals, cows, poultry, and pigs. Applicants must possess a DVM or equivalent degree(s), have an excellent academic record, strong communication skills, and be committed to a career in veterinary anatomic pathology. NC State University is near two other major universities (Duke University and the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill) and the Research Triangle Park, which includes multiple government agencies, non-profit institutes, biotechnology, and large pharmaceutical companies. In addition, the state diagnostic laboratory lies within close proximity to the CVM campus. Opportunities for collaboration and externships are possible for capable, interested residents.
