This position is grant funded which is guaranteed for three years. Funding will be reviewed at that time.

  • Hours of Work: Monday – Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm.

Salary and Benefits: This is a full-time, benefited Managerial 5 level position. Starting salary range: $82,820.00 - $93,623.00/annually, depending upon experience.

JOB SUMMARY 
 
Core responsibilities include:
 
The Director, Entrepreneurship & Innovation is primarily responsible for all activities related to the Innovation Center at LCCC. Through the Director’s leadership the Center will connect, support, and grow a robust innovation and entrepreneurial ecosystem to empower talented and passionate individuals across our region. The Director is tasked with overseeing a portfolio of programs, workshops, and events designed to support the development of entrepreneurs within the College and throughout Southeast Wyoming. The Director will foster and maintain a network of experienced mentors committed to engagement with new founders in their journey from ideation to launch. Ultimately, our Director is motivated to work at the heart of this new resource, driven by a vision to transform community by connecting new ideas to the cultivation of viable business ventures.

Essential Functions:

Center Leadership and Oversight

Leads the launch and full implementation of the Southeast Wyoming Innovation Center at LCCC by assembling a dynamic team, developing strategic operational plans, and mobilizing essential resources. Expected outcomes in this domain include:
  • Establishing a comprehensive technical assistance framework that offers business-planning services, coordinates connections to funding opportunities, and facilitates access to facilities and spaces to create and advance entrepreneurs at all levels.
  • Coordinated access to community makerspace tools, equipment, and resources for prototype and promotional needs.
  • Development, delivery, and evaluation of research-backed, proven approaches to programming that cultivates individuals with ideas leading to successful business launches.
  • Creation and management of an effective entrepreneurship consulting program that supports entrepreneurs in the stages of ideation to launch.
  • Establishment of a broad pool of mentors and a mentoring program that ties experienced entrepreneurs to emerging ones with the goal of helping them launch, stabilize, and grow.
 
Program Planning and Delivery
Leverages partnerships with a network of stakeholders to create and align curriculum, outcomes, and shared resources to cultivate individuals with ideas as potential entrepreneurs and facilitates the advancement of new entrepreneurs by developing and expanding entrepreneurial programming. This is accomplished through the collaborative design and delivery of:
  • Entrepreneurial programming for K-12 populations that enables high school students to view themselves as innovators, think entrepreneurially, and gain experience in the path for business start-up or expansion.
  • Credit and non-credit college-level programming leading to credentials and outcomes that result in the development of ideas and business plans, and leading to new |business starts.
  • Various programming for community members and stakeholders that provide targeted topic development of areas new and existing entrepreneurs face, or to strengthen the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Wyoming.
  • The development and successful hosting of pitch/launch events that allow entrepreneurs to compete for resources and garner feedback from experts on where their idea/business may be strengthened.
 
Mentorship and Network Development
Increases long-term success rates for new and aspiring entrepreneurs by providing a network of high-quality mentors and effectively pairing them with new and emerging entrepreneurs. This is accomplished through:
  • Deep integration into the regional entrepreneur community, leading to awareness, relationships, and ultimately a roster of mentors.
  • Creation and/or adaptation of a mentoring program that leads to the successful training/development of mentors within the network created as result of the integration mentioned above.
  • Assignment of trained mentors to aspiring entrepreneurs.
 
Entrepreneur Consulting Services
The Director establishes, manages, evaluates and improves a consulting services program that develops a corps of consultants prepared to help entrepreneurs navigate and access relevant services provided by a robust network of community and state resources within the Wyoming entrepreneurial ecosystem. This is accomplished through:
  • Collaboration with regional partners and stakeholders to organize, develop, and add impactful resources that comprise the state’s entrepreneurial ecosystem
  • Delivery of a consultant development program that builds a corps of consultants trained to work with entrepreneurs in a case management model for supporting and connecting them to relevant resources
  • Development of a corps of consultants, and accompanying business structures to provide the consulting services.
 
Resource Advancement and Sustainability
Streamlines, expands, and coordinates advanced-stage resources across Southeast Wyoming through collaboration and the establishment of clear pathways for entrepreneurs at all stages to achieve their goals. Envelopes the Center in the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Southeast Wyoming through the development of an advisory board.
 
Other tasks may be assigned based on contemporary institutional need.
 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Knowledge
  • Professional knowledge and ability within entrepreneurship and economic development, including understanding of entrepreneurial principles, startup ecosystems, and innovation processes
  • Knowledge of business development, to include business planning, fundraising, financial management, and marketing strategies relevant to startups
  • Knowledge of industry trends, technologies, and opportunities, particularly within Southeast Wyoming
  • Knowledge of building and maintaining relationships with industry stakeholders, mentors, investor, and community partners
  • Advanced working knowledge and ability with personal computing equipment and applications – specifically Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint), Adobe products (e.g., Reader, Professional)
 
 
Skills
  • Leadership skills, including effective teambuilding, fostering a collaborative environment, and inspiring innovation among staff and stakeholders
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:
  • The ability to comply with highly inflexible deadlines is required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position; there will be multiple occurrences of sudden, urgent task completion required
  • While performing the essential duties of this position, an employee would frequently be required to move around the assigned work areas as well as within hallways, meeting rooms, and other parts of the campus facilities
  • There may be multiple/daily instances of prolonged sitting, standing, and personal computer use, which would include keyboard and/or mouse usage as well as viewing a computer monitor
  • An employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds to perform essential position functions
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
  • The overall work environment requires the mental ability to shift focal point quickly due to interruptions; an employee must be able to mentally track multiple projects and tasking as well
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; however, there may be unexpected instances of somewhat loud sounds

Qualifications:

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • A minimum of five years’ entrepreneurial experience in roles such as founder, owner/manager of a business, developer of a patented idea or product
  • Experience in developing and/or delivering entrepreneurial education or training programs
