Germanna Community College is a public, open access institution of higher education in the Virginia Community College System. The College is a dynamic learning organization that serves as a Germanna regional leader and preferred partner where quality learning experiences enable students to participate effectively in the social, economic, political, intellectual, and cultural life of their communities. Germanna Community College is centrally located in Fredericksburg, VA between Washington D.C. and Richmond and between the Blue Ridge mountains and the Chesapeake Bay. Full of history, the area offers a community rich with diversity, the arts, technology, vineyards, hiking, canoeing/kayaking, and many other activities.

Germanna Community College is currently seeking a Future Educators Academy Advisor. The incumbent is responsible for providing comprehensive academic and cocurricular support and advising to scholars in the Future Educators Academy. This role involves working closely with students throughout their academic journeys, offering proactive support, and assisting with academic interventions as necessary. The Advisor will operate under the guidance and oversight of the Coordinator of the Future Educators.
 
 
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct academic and cocurricular support to students in the Future Educators Academy
  • Work closely with students to identify and address their individual needs, offering timely and appropriate interventions
  • Collaborate with faculty and other advisors to ensure a cohesive and supportive educational environment
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress and interventions and report attendance back to high schools
  • Participate in program planning and evaluation to continuously improve student support services
  • Serve as the key liaison between Germanna and parents, as well as high school counselors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and advising skills
  • Experience working with high school students or students in dual enrollment programs
  • Ability to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds
  • Knowledge of educational support practices and academic intervention strategies
  • Commitment to working with diverse colleagues, students, and community members
  • Demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing equity, inclusion, and diversity
  • Experience with or willingness to learn artificial intelligence tools.
 
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in academic advising or student support services in a higher education setting.
