Job Description

Under the direct/general supervision of the Dean of Transitional Studies and Centralia College East, this exempt position is responsible for daily leadership and oversight of education programs in collaboration with the Department of Corrections leadership teams and State Board of Community and Technical Colleges at Washington Corrections Center and Cedar Creek Corrections Center.

This position is designed to fulfill a contract awarded by the Washington State Board of Community and Technical Colleges (SBCTC) to operate a correctional education program in accordance with an interagency agreement with the Department of Corrections (DOC). Centralia College and its employees working in corrections education are expected to follow all DOC policies, IT, and other security requirements, follow DOC Operational Memorandums, and comply with the Superintendent's directives.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide daily leadership and oversight of educational programs in collaboration with the Department of Corrections Leadership Teams and State Board of Community and Technical Colleges (SBCTC) at WCC and CCCC.
  • The Associate Dean will split their time between WCC (Shelton) and CCCC (Little Rock) with limited time spent on main campus.
  • Work onsite daily to supervise and evaluate faculty, and staff, in assigned areas of responsibility and in adherence to negotiated agreements, applicable state and federal laws, accrediting bodies, and college and DOC policies and procedures.
  • Facilitates recruiting, hiring, and orienting/mentoring of staff and faculty in areas of responsibility; facilitate professional development opportunities for faculty in coordination with the Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) committee and campus-wide training efforts.
  • Collaborate with faculty to plan, develop, support, and implement curriculum and instructional activities, including assessment; provide curricular oversight of the assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Monitors and oversees enrollment, registrations, and curriculum, ensuring accuracy of data and maintaining adherence to Department of Corrections (DOC), Centralia College (CC), and State Board of Community and Technical College's (SBCTC) policy and procedures.
  • Ensures effective and efficient management of the DOC Offender Management Network Information (OMNI) class waiting list and enrollment of students in the College ctcLink system.
  • Manages financial resources by providing oversight of budget expenditures in assigned areas; collaborate with college administration and stakeholders to equitably utilize college resources; coordinate the acquisition of equipment and supplies for assigned areas as needed.
  • Completes the required grant application and grant reporting to SBCTC for continued operations of the contract.
  • Administers the approved correctional education budget and expenditures.
  • Oversees compliance with Washington state and national standards and laws for the assigned program areas as well as any specialized accreditation and certification, maintenance of accurate records and reports in accordance with guidelines for education programs.
  • Collaborates with faculty and campus leadership to implement college initiatives that promote student success and improve access for historically underserved populations.
  • Adheres to college policies and accreditation standards; coordinate with faculty to assess, evaluate, and respond to student and program needs to facilitate student success and achieve outcomes.
  • Promotes faculty/staff input and communication as part of the decision-making process including course scheduling and program planning.
  • Collaborates with the Dean and Director to meet instructional goals and enhance communication among areas.
  • Communicates effectively, both in writing and verbally.
  • Handles student complaints as the first line of reporting.
  • Works in partnership and collaboration with the DOC, CC, and SBCTC to ensure alignment with needs and goals.
  • Delegates task responsibilities and decisions as appropriate.
  • Attend meetings and activities in the evening as needed.
  • Attend meetings on the Centralia College main campus as needed.

 

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in education or a discipline related to one or more areas within the assigned division is preferred. A bachelor's degree plus two years of relevant administrative and/or supervisory experience can substitute for a master's degree.
  • Ability to accurately evaluate instructional activities (e.g., programs, courses, and projects), previous experience supervising teachers, and other assigned personal in accordance with research-based, effective pedagogy.
  • Demonstrated experience or participation with persons from historically minoritized backgrounds such as sexual orientation, racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, socio-economic, physical and learning abilities, and a commitment to an inclusive and equitable working/learning environment.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office, specifically experience creating and editing documents, spreadsheets, and presentations.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail as well as previous experience maintaining accurate records, managing multiple tasks, planning, and organizing work in order to meet changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, work collaboratively, and practice consensus-based decision making.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with DOC and/or in a secured or controlled-access facility.
  • Demonstrated commitment to justice-involved individuals.

 

Physical Requirements

  • Constantly sitting or standing for long durations of presentations/meetings.
  • Constantly moving about the correctional center to accomplish objectives.
  • Constantly communicates information orally and in writing.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, copy machine, and computer printer.

 

Working Conditions

  • All work is performed inside the Cedar Creek Correctional Center and the Washington State Correctional Center.
  • Work time is split between the two facilities located in Little Rock and Shelton with limited time spent on main campus in Centralia.

 

Conditions of Employment

This is a twelve (12) month per year, full-time administrative exempt position. The salary is $94,754 - $94,754 annually depending on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. The state of Washington provides a comprehensive benefits package for state employees. The position may participate in the TIAA/CREF retirement system.
