Job Description
Responsibilities
Under occasional supervision, performs general law enforcement duties to ensure the strict enforcement of state and local laws and University rules and regulations relating to public safety and welfare. Reports to the shift supervisor or, in the absence of a supervisor, the Director of Campus Police.
Performs general law enforcement duties, including patrolling campus; checking property for security; conducting room searches; maintaining order and public safety; issuing traffic/parking tickets; apprehending and arresting suspects; questioning suspects; collecting and preserving evidence; assisting crime and accident victims; investigating alarms, etc.
Maintains security at the University's main entrance; monitors entering vehicles and pedestrians; provides directions and assistance to visitors as requested.
Receives and responds to student and citizen inquiries, complaints and requests for assistance. Responds to and assists in all medical emergencies.
Prepares and submits incident reports.
Monitors campus vehicles for properly dated parking decals.
Monitors campus exterior lighting for proper and safe working condition. Assists in conducting fire drills and in evacuating buildings.
Provides crowd, parking and traffic control for athletic events, special University/ public events, etc.
Qualifications
Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by required training and one to two years of experience as a security guard or in law enforcement, or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and experience. Must possess a valid Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) certification and state driver's license.
