Duties and Responsibilities
  • Processing journal entries into general ledger and subsidiary ledgers, on a weekly basis. Reviewing journal entries for accuracy and corrects inconsistencies.
  • Performs monthly account reconciliations (i.e., cash, investments, payables). Reviews accounts for accuracy and corrects inconsistencies in financial entries, documents and reports, as needed.
  • Researches and compiles financial data required to produce monthly
  • (i.e., Actual vs Budget) and periodic financial reports.
  • Supports accounts payable process. Processes online ACH-Wire transactions, on a weekly basis.
  • Supports cash receipts process. Reviews and closes Advance batches as needed
  • Supports grant process, by providing financial data and progress reports.
  • Participates in monthly and annual closing process
  • Facilitates annual audit process by generating audit schedules and assists in responding to auditor’s inquires.
  • Performs other duties as needed.
Minimum Qualifications

 

Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field of study
Experience
  • A minimum of two (2) years in relevant experience in accounting or business
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
    • Aptitude in accounting and GAAP (generally accepted accounting principles),
    • Proficient with technology-accounting software, excel, Outlook, Teams or Zoom Communication skills
    • Attention to details
    • Problem solving

The Accountant is responsible for performing accounting tasks that aid in maintaining Bowie State University Foundation’s (BSUF) accounting and financial reporting functions. The Accountant will apply knowledge of GAAP (generally accepted accounting principles) to prepare detailed financial reports and schedules, reconcile accounts as well as maintain grant ledgers.
