Summary

The University of Michigan School of Dentistry (UMSD) and Biosciences Initiative (BSI) invite nominations and applications for a tenure track faculty position in the areas of biomaterials and regenerative medicine, at the Assistant or Associate Professor level.

In 2020, the Engineering Cell Programmable Biomaterials for Regenerative Medicine Scientific Research Initiative was awarded foundational support through a presidential Biosciences Initiative totaling $150M. The long-term goal for this initiative is to develop a Center and elevate the University of Michigan as a preeminent institution in regenerative medicine by building community, resources, and infrastructure, and hiring new faculty to create cell-programmable, niche-mimicking biomaterials.

We are seeking passionate scientists who use ground-breaking approaches to advance the field of regenerative medicine, increasing translatability of new therapies, and who are committed to joining our vibrant research community. Research domains related to smart biomaterials, materials that have integrated therapeutic, sensing and/or diagnostic capabilities, artificial intelligence/computational design of biomaterials, advanced imaging for design and analysis of tissue engineered products, and pre- clinical animal-models are of particular interest. One of the new positions will be in the Department of Biologic and Materials Sciences in the School of Dentistry. Candidates with an interest in and experience with biomaterial-based regenerative strategies related to dental and/or craniofacial research are encouraged to apply.

Candidates should possess a Ph.D., DDS/Ph.D., M.D., D.V.M., or equivalent degree and have a strong track record of collaborating, publishing, and obtaining grant funding. Candidates should demonstrate an interest in developing strong, productive interactions with clinicians and other basic scientists; the ability to add intellectual diversity; and ability to work successfully with and mentor diverse students/colleagues.

We welcome applications from outstanding scientists in any area of regenerative medicine complementary to existing expertise at the University of Michigan, but especially those areas identified above. Candidates with interest in social and cultural health disparities in regenerative medicine are also encouraged to apply. For further information about regenerative medicine at Michigan,
please visit our Regenerative Medicine Biosciences website.
